Does this sound familiar? You prefer the thermostat set at 68 degrees but everyone else feels more comfortable when it’s set at 75 degrees. A zone control system provides personalized comfort to homes and business alike by using independent thermostat’s and motorized dampers to control the flow of conditioned air to each room, office, or zoned area.
Your comfort is as important as your home; it’s your kingdom and your family’s refuge from the outside elements all year long! In today’s energy conservation, our homes are costing us more to own and operate; it’s great to have comfort and control within our reach.
Homes and offices already have zoned lighting; there isn’t once switch that turns all the lights on and off for your whole home. Why not have control of your homes central heating and air conditioning system, where and when you need it most. A zone control system allows you to set the temperature you want, where you want it, and when you want it.
With a thermostat in each zone, your family will have complete control over the temperature in each zone. A typical zoning system will reduce energy cost by 25-30%.
**The most important factor in zoning any system is a properly designed duct system.
Single-Level Zoning:
Single-story homes are typically challenging because the living area, as well as bedrooms, are spread out across one larger level. The comfort needs in these areas often change as the day progresses. This is usually caused by direct sun exposer in one or more areas of your home. In some instances, hot and cold spots will appear in rooms that have large windows, high-vaulted ceilings, or are poorly insulated.
Zoning Solutions:
Separate the living areas from bedrooms. Programmable thermostats will be installed in each zoned area to provide conditioned air to the area in use, or use different temperatures settings in areas with the greatest variance in temperature to control your comfort when and where you need it. At night, use the set-back temperature to turn off certain areas.
Multi-Level Zoning:
Multi-story homes are even more challenging because warm air naturally rises and cold air naturally falls. Single thermostat systems placed on the lower level can never detect the temperature variance on the upper level. Large great rooms, the effects of Mother Nature, high ceilings and many other variables can make controlling indoor temperatures difficult.
Zoning Solutions:
The most common solution in a multi-level dwelling is to separate the upper floor from the lower floor. Use the programmable thermostat’s to control the temperatures of all the levels when and where you need it most.
